What is Great Bad Movies?
Great Bad Movies is a podcast about visceral, kinetic action movies that are willing to be larger than life. Childhood friends Greg Swinehart and Joe Sky-Tucker have been releasing episodes every other Wednesday since April 2024, working through action cinema from the early nineties to right now. Each episode is a love letter to the most entertaining movies.
Only movies with true greatness are on this show. We put “bad” in the title, but we mean something specific by it: exaggerated, usually on purpose. The idea comes from director Justin Lin, talking on the Fast Five commentary about a 250-foot fall:
“Embrace the ridiculousness of it.”
That’s the whole editorial lens. A Great Bad Movie prioritizes entertainment over strict realism, pushes practical stunts to extremes, and goes big with its set pieces. As Joe puts it in our very first episode, on Cliffhanger: “Greatness and badness can both enhance each other. Sometimes the worse the movie is, the better it becomes.”
